A new shoe and apparel store is headed for Tulsa with the opening this September of MetroShoe Warehouse at 8802 E. 71st St. in Woodland Hills Plaza.
The 15,000 square foot store, to be located in a former Petco store, will be the third location for the Oklahoma City based company, which also has stores in Norman and Oklahoma City.
Its our selection and our brand that set us apart. Nobody carries the depth or the variety in the brands that we sell. You wont find that selection anywhere, said Heath Martin, one of the stores owners and vice president.
The store carries about 75 to 100 footwear brands for women, men and children. Martin noted, however, that the store is more of a lifestyle store and about 40 percent of its merchandise includes apparel and lifestyle products.
Among the many brands it carries are Dansko, Chaco, New Balance, Vans, Merrell, UGG Australia, Born, The North Face, Patagonia, Vineyard Vines, Converse, Adidas, Nixon and Clarks.
Our selection and our brand are what set us apart, Martin added.
The store began in 1997 when Martin and Jason Parks two college friends who had worked in a shoe store together decided to open their own store after college. Parks is the companys president.
The stores concept has changed over the years. When it started, the store was named Westies, but that confused some customers who associated the store with only Nine West brand shoes.
In 2010, the store rebranded to MetroShoe Warehouse and moved into larger spaces.
Tulsa is a good market for us, Martin said. Its an easy kind of move for us location wise. The demographics are relatively the same, and its a market that I think will like what we are going to offer.
The store will employ about 50 people, including management, operation and sales positions.
Its a true family store, Martin said. Even the husbands like to shop in our store. Its one of those places they like to come to. Its not gender or age specific.
Martin noted that the shoe store also would like to become involved in the Tulsa community. In 2012, the company introduced The MetroShoe Project, a nonprofit organization, that last year gave shoes to more than 3,000 elementary school children in need in the Oklahoma City Public Schools district.
