A new shoe and apparel store is headed for Tulsa with the opening this September of MetroShoe Warehouse at 8802 E. 71st St. in Woodland Hills Plaza.

The 15,000 square foot store, to be located in a former Petco store, will be the third location for the Oklahoma City based company, which also has stores in Norman and Oklahoma City.

Its our selection and our brand that set us apart. Nobody carries the depth or the variety in the brands that we sell. You wont find that selection anywhere, said Heath Martin, one of the stores owners and vice president.

The store carries about 75 to 100 footwear brands for women, men and children. Martin noted, however, that the store is more of a lifestyle store and about 40 percent of its merchandise includes apparel and lifestyle products.

Among the many brands it carries are Dansko, Chaco, New Balance, Vans, Merrell, UGG Australia, Born, The North Face, Patagonia, Vineyard Vines, Converse, Adidas, Nixon and Clarks.

Our selection and our brand are what set us apart, Martin added.

The store began in 1997 when Martin and Jason Parks two college friends who had worked in a shoe store together decided to open their own store after college. Parks is the companys president.

The stores concept has changed over the years. When it started, the store was named Westies, but that confused some customers who associated the store with only Nine West brand shoes.

In 2010, the store rebranded to MetroShoe Warehouse and moved into larger spaces.

Tulsa is a good market for us, Martin said. Its an easy kind of move for us location wise. The demographics are relatively the same, and its a market that I think will like what we are going to offer.

The store will employ about 50 people, including management, operation and sales positions.

Its a true family store, Martin said. Even the husbands like to shop in our store. Its one of those places they like to come to. Its not gender or age specific.

Martin noted that the shoe store also would like to become involved in the Tulsa community. In 2012, the company introduced The MetroShoe Project, a nonprofit organization, that last year gave shoes to more than 3,000 elementary school children in need in the Oklahoma City Public Schools district.

WHILE supermodels prowling the catwalks of Paris, New York, Milan and Tokyo fight for prime space on the pages of Vogue, Santa Cruz usually gets left out of the debate over the fashion capital of the world. Stereotypical local looks wool socks under Teva sandals, Birkenstocks and business suits, Ugg Boots with mini skirts usually haunt “fashion don’ts’ lists, rather than capturing full length feature praise.

The image of Santa Cruz as trapped in a perpetual fashion emergency probably won’t change anytime soon. But once a year, “Seventh Sense: A Fashion Show,” this year presented at 8pm Friday and Saturday at the Santa Cruz Dance Gallery, transcends fashion industry trends. The show’s co producers, So Say We owner David Jackman and the Dance Gallery’s Chip, focus on fashion as a form of expression a key aspect of identity and a universal cultural phenomenon. With the help of 20 local artists, “Seventh Sense” playfully explores these and other heady questions as it toys with both the form and the function of fashion.

“There’s no commercial viability to ‘Seventh Sense,’ ” Jackman says. “It’s really boundless. It’s not about the limitations of the real world, but what the models can wear out there and what the artists can imagine.”

Anyone who has attended “Seventh Sense,” now in its third year, already knows that local artists are masters of stretching the definition of clothing and reality. Last year, Darryl Ferucci created a “Construction Collection” featuring models striking dramatic poses and sporting little more than duct tape, orange snow fence and Calvin Klein inspired stares. Ferucci also mastered the art of twisting yellow caution tape, wrapping models up in it to create stylish coverings.

“He’s looking for glow in the dark iridescent goo,” Chip says of Ferucci. “I’m not entirely sure what he has up his sleeve this year.”

New artists, many of them inspired by previous “Seventh Sense” performances,

join the veterans. Marrysh, a local multimedia artist and painter also known as Artwell, says he was thinking of putting together a similar show until he heard of “Seventh Sense.” Now he and two Santa Cruz based dancers present “Have You?,” a piece featuring models and multimedia creations.

“I’ve been a painter and visual artist, but fashion is different. It’s a form of expression using the human being as medium,” Marrysh says.

Few debuting designers have worked the runways before, but little about the show feels amateurish. Like Marrysh, many have years of visual arts experience. And anyone who last year witnessed Nichola, an artist who created and modeled a dress covered in 500 hand sewn pink silk roses, knows that lack of experience with high fashion can often translate to breathtakingly beautiful creations pure in their honesty.

In A Notebook on Cities and Clothes: A Film by Wim Wenders with Yohji Yamamoto, Wenders describes initially dreading an assignment to make a film about something as trivial as fashion. But the famous director (Buena Vista Social Club) admits in the end that finding the perfect shirt feels much like a moment of truth. It’s that moment and the process of reaching it that Jackman and Chip say they hope to capture during the artsy evening.

IT’S IMPOSSIBLE to resist the temptation of people watching while sipping mochas and talking clothes in a busy cafe with Jackman and Chip. Chip notices that I’m surveying passing fashions, and he explains that he and his father used to make a game out of it by guessing what people did from what they wore.

“You can’t avoid making a statement with your fashion even if your message is ‘I’m not making a statement with my fashion,’ ” Chip says. “Everybody gets dressed in the morning. And if they don’t, that’s a pretty powerful statement, too.”

“Seventh Sense” searches for statement in its purest form, shifting the emphasis from the commerce of clothing to an evening of anthropological play.

“It’s a way to communicate with people that have never seen you before and may never talk to you,” Jackman says.

And there’s no better time than October to explore the role of costume in culture. Halloween approaches quickly, and people are already thinking about choosing a new identity for an evening or two.

“People say, ‘What are you going to be for Halloween?’ ” Chip says. “Not, ‘What are you going to wear?’ ”

Just as masquerade can allow people to explore aspects of identity usually hidden, the surreal “Seventh Sense” uncovers that there’s more to Santa Cruz fashion than Birkenstocks and Guatemalan sweaters.

“People will say, ‘That’s so Santa Cruz.’ But what does that mean?” Chip says. “Santa Cruz is such a diverse place in so many ways. The fashion at the university alone is all over the map.”

Jackman and Chip ultimately aim to highlight such diversity while tying everything together in a cohesive evening.

Not only do shoes have to be exceptionally comfortable to avoid the I want a carry demand often issued by children with painful feet but they must be fashionable and well liked by the child too. Not many brands have spent so much time as Lelli Kelly to ensure that they provide shoes that have optimal comfort, are supremely safe, and that are incredibly attractive to children as well. Their shoes create the perfect balance between the needs of the parents and the tastes of the children indeed, upon purchasing this brand of shoes; many children will feel they somehow got the upper hand, because they have finally walked out of a shoe shop with a pair of shoes they love. Manufacturers of childrens shoes need to be particularly careful about their design and production remits. This is because the shoes that people wear in childhood affect the well being of feet in adulthood. A child that consistently wears ill fitting shoes, will find, as they grow older, that they may experience many problems. Problems that can arise from wearing shoes that do not offer sufficient protection as a child includes: corns, bunions, in growing toenails, back pain, and strange gait. Placing undue pressure on one area of the foot apparent in adults when looking at the tread of a shoe, some areas of the sole appear more worn than the equivalent area on the other foot frequently results from ill fitting shoes in childhood! A decent manufacturer of childrens footwear understands these issues and endeavours to create the perfect fitting shoes. Lelli Kelly is one such manufacturer, and their shoes provide much more by way of foot health, than simply a good fit. For instance, they use a particular insole that has been proven to absorb perspiration, these soles have a gel core which acts to retain moisture, keeping it away from the rest of the shoe (thus ensuring that shoes are long lasting), and more essentially, away from the childs feet. The moisture captured by the gel, slowly evaporates through strategically placed holes, then, once the child removes the shoe at the end of the day, the moisture dissipates entirely. As a design of footwear, tailored towards the needs of children, Lelli Kelly have excelled. Not only do their shoes boast a fantastic safety and protection record, they are also extremely attractive, coming in an incredible array of materials, colours, styles, and design; so much so in fact, that they will have you longing to be a child again in no time at all. Although jewellery is often thought of as the ultimate fashion accessory, it may be pointed out that shoes make a huge stamp on any outfit. One of the most basic combinations is the pencil skirt and simple high heels. If you’re dressing to impress at a business meeting but still wish to maintain a professional appearance, a black or gray skirt with a blouse is a good choice. Keep jewellery down to a minimum, because what makes this outfit pop is your sky high black heels. Why? It’s hard to look casual without appearing like you actually tried to look that way. Swingy floral skirts that hit just above the knee are casual enough and look good with anything. Couple it with a pair of cute wedge shoes. You might prefer denim material on the shoes, or long strips of cloth that wrap around the ankle. Ladies shoes that are matched with these styles of skirts need to be low profile. Don’t wear high heels with a maxi, because the skirt is already making you appear very tall. The best ladies shoes to wear with this outfit are flat shoes. Ballet flats are too dainty for the breezy skirt, so go with simple flip flops or flat, strappy gladiator sandals. Knee high socks and oxford sneakers aren’t the only shoes that look good with this outfit. Pleated skirts can be low statement or dramatic. If you’re going for low statement, forgo the socks and just wear the sneakers. But if you’re looking for drama, couple your skirt with a pair of boots reach the knee, or just above. Pair them with flip flops, boots or gladiators to achieve a cute, laid back look. Slight heels about an inch or less do that without taking away from the skirt. The same tip goes for Midi skirts. Waterproof Running Shoes vs. Water Resistant Running Shoes Is there a difference between waterproof running shoes and water resistant running shoes? Yes there is and no there isn’t. These are two opposites answers but based on you needs the the the difference between the two can be insignificant or substantial. On the surface the names sound as if they serve the same purpose, and they do to a point. But a closer look at the two will help you to understand the difference. As well as help you make a better buying decision based on your needs. To get started it is important to know that the ability to label anything as waterproof or water resistant is based on a rating that is measured by how well a fabric or material can prevent the entry of moisture under pressure. Now that we have that out of the way let me start off with running shoes that are labeled as being waterproof. To be considered truly waterproof the shoes must be able to keep your feet dry under the most extreme conditions. Most waterproof running shoes are made with Gore Tex, a waterproof/breathable fabric. This fabric is rated at being able to repel about 40 psi (pound per square inch) of water pressure, which is like being caught in a heavy rain storm. Running shoes that are labeled as being water resistant or water repellent are made up of fabric or materials that provide limited protection from such elements as rain or snow. Fabric or materials frequently used for water resistant running shoes hold can hold off between 3 to 5 psi of water pressure, which is like being light rainfall. Prolong exposure to wet conditions with this type of fabric or material will start to allow the moisture to enter into the shoe. To summarize both types of shoes repel water. The difference is based on the length of exposure and amount of water pressure being forced onto the shoe. There is more technical information regarding this topic, but I wanted to keep it simple. Hopefully this little article was able to help clear up the difference between waterproof and water resistant. So next time you are shopping for pair for your next extreme adventure or light jog you will be more informed and know which type is better suited for your needs. It’s been less than a week since Alyssa Milano helped the MeToo movement go viral. In a new interview on Good Morning America, the Project Runway All Stars judge addressed what the movement means to her and how she hopes to take it beyond a social media conversation.

“I just think it’s something that is so so prevalent,” Milano said in regards to the magnitude of the sexual harassment and assault problem. “It is a cultural issue that I think we have to face, and women posting ‘Me Too’ think gave them the courage to not have to tell their story or not have to name their predator but to just stand in solidarity. GMA’s Robin Roberts asked Milano when she thinks she’ll “be ready to share your story in full.”

“I’m not sure,” the Charmed actress responded. “I don’t know if I will ever publicly share my story. Of course, I’ve done my own healing and been through counseling and have a great support system in my life. But really this was about showing that this happens everywhere.”

Although she didn’t divulge specifics, Milano later added,

“I have been harassed so many times I can’t count. I’ve been assaulted.”

When Roberts asked Milano how she hoped to take this movement beyond a conversation, Milano said, “It has to go beyond just a hashtag movement.” She also talked about establishing protocols and defining “those lines so that men know that they cannot cross them.”

In addition, she encouraged viewers to continue to speak out and to offer suggestions for continuing to mobilize this movement.

“I really want this to be about the every woman’s voice,” she told Roberts. “I want it to be is your movement, women. This is your time. And if I can be the vessel and hold the bullhorn for you guys to shout as loud as humanly possible, then I’m honored to do so. But let’s fix this problem.”

NEW ORLEANS The first time former Oklahoma offensive lineman Jammal Brown met current Sooners left tackle Orlando Brown, an NFL player was talking to a chubby kid.

He was a big, ol round doughboy, Jammal said of his first encounter with Orlando, who was maybe 10 years old at the time. Looked like he was pushing 350 then.

The two met at a football camp through Orlando Brown Sr., better known as Zeus, who played 12 years in the NFL. The elder Brown briefly shared an agent with Jammal, who played at OU from 2000 04 and spent nine seasons in the NFL.

Little did either of them know that was the beginning of a relationship that would shape Orlandos life and football career.

Zeus died in 2011 of diabetic ketoacidosis. Orlando has talked openly about his fathers death and the confusion he went through in the aftermath.

Orlando has viewed Jammal as a replacement father figure ever since, but the relationship became much closer when Orlando committed to OU.

Hes like my dad, Orlando said. Hes my role model. Hes my father figure. I talk to him just about every day.

When Orlando signed with OU, Jammal met with him and asked what he wanted to do with his time in Norman.

He showed me that he was a real good listener and willing to work, Jammal said. He was lazy, but he was a real good listener and had the ambition of wanting to be a good player. So if you can just show me that, I can work with you.

The two formed a partnership. Jammal spends his summers in Norman, where the two work out together.

Jammal related to Orlando on an emotional level and thought he could help Orlando become an NFL player. But in many ways, football was the easy part.

Orlando grew up going to an all boys school in Baltimore. After his fathers death, he went to a public high school in Atlanta, but was still behind on the ways of the world.

It was almost like we had to start over with all the little things, Jammal said.

That meant plenty of lessons on how to talk to girls. And a lot of guidance on how to dress.

It was understanding, hey, youre a big guy, but you dont have to buy a 4X shirt and have it hanging off you,
ugg booys Mentorship from a former Sooner helping OU
Jammal said. You can be a big guy and look neat and classy.

On the field, Jammal helped shape Orlando through tough love. When Orlando thought he might come in and start as a freshman, Jammal set him straight. Brown ended up redshirting, but he was able to cut weight and adjust to college with less pressure.

Even through two years or playing, Orlando said its incredibly rare for Jammal to tell him something as simple as good job.

We have a very unique relationship, Jammal said. Its a real aggressive relationship. Every day we talk, and its not like Im real positive with him. Im real negative with him on every aspect. I feel like thats kind of the way we were coached, and now coaches arent allowed to really coach like that.

Jammals teachings include plenty of stories about his own mistakes, plus anecdotes from his time in the NFL. He has taught Orlando the importance of technique and seriousness. team meetings at 7:58.

Youre on time, but you have to understand how the front office and everybody is viewing that, Jammal said. Its the same things at OU.

Jammal said Orlando was stubborn at first but has started to catch on. And OU lineman Dru Samia sid he has always noticed Orlandos intense dedication.

Its a big mentality thing for Orlando, Samia said. A lot of his deal is playing football. Hes more focused on the mentality and what it takes to be a football player.

Orlando has always been quick to credit his NFL pedigree, but at the same time, he wants to be a different player than his father. Zeus was known as a mauler and a scrapper who succeeded through his will power.

Orlando is now a 6 foot 8, 340 pound behemoth, but hes also turning into a technician.

I take a lot of pride in my craft, Orlando said.

As a result, Orlando has turned into the best offensive lineman in the Big 12 and an AP second team All American. He also took Jammals guidance and has already announced his return for another season, saying he knows he has more work to do if he wants to become a first round pick.

Jammal saw that pay off for him when he stayed for a senior season in 2004 and ended up getting drafted in the first round.

What he says goes, Orlando said.

Jammal also said he has watched Orlando grow into a young man, even developing his own sense of style and showing off his UGG boots at press conferences that, too,

Runway designers have taken note. In the last year, many of the most popular collections in Paris, Milan, and New York have opted to show menswear on their women’s runways.

Last month, Calvin Klein’s creative director, Raf Simons, announced his decision to show both collections on one runway, joining Gucci, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith, and Burberry in the practice.

Interest in men’s fashion has come a long way since the days of the metrosexual the original style obsessed dude who, in the early 2000s, emerged from the ashes of the sloppy ’90s wearing a very fitted suit and carrying an umbrella.

Eggplant velvet blazer, Hart Schaffner Marx, $695, at Bloomingdale black trousers, Saks Fifth Avenue private label, $228, at Saks Fifth Avenue; white dress shirt, Hugo Boss, $135, at Bloomingdale silk scarf, Henry A. Davidsen, $225, at Henry A. Davidsen.

The typical guy including the Philly gent largely ignored this look. But it wasn’t long before the ways of the hipster (favoring all things fitted while twirling his ponytail into a man bun) or the lumbersexual (choosing beards and plaid shirts) caught on. With each trendy dude reincarnation, men’s fashion has blossomed on runways and Instagram.

So as we stand at the cusp of 2017, it seems the old fashion fears are gone, whether we’re talking about guys who suit up, tend toward the androgynous, don athletic attire, or amazing as it may sound like all three. His wardrobe can take him from day to night. Sound familiar, ladies?

“What finally happened is that guys in basketball like Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul began adopting these looks in their own way, and they became universal and aspirational,” said Sabir Peele, a menswear brand consultant and founder of Men’s Style Pro.

“Guys just started to understand, ‘I can do all of this. I can be sporty or wear a suit like a corporate guy. I can create my own look.’ ”

Herringbone blazer, $419, trouser pants, $219, both Land End; black turtleneck, Saks Fifth Avenueprivate label, $248, at Saks Fifth Avenue; tassel shoes, Cobble Hyde, $195.

With this new experimentation came an excess of new accessories this year: dotted pocket squares, solid knit ties, smart fedoras, jackets with custom linings. And the shoes whether shined to dress up or clean sneakers to dress down pull everything together.

Not only are men adopting the fashion, the shopping experience a pastime historically treasured solely by women has been embraced, as well. In Center City, MySuit, Bonobos, and Aston Marx joined Suit Supply, Henry A. Davidsen, and a newly renovated Blue Sole Shoes in offering men a heavy dose of customer service as in, some whiskey with those measurements with the big ticket fashion items.

And in King of Prussia’s new 155,000 square foot wing, luxury boutiques such as Gucci, MCM Worldwide, Rag Bone, and SuperDry are dedicating equal amounts of retail space to men and women.

It’s a worrying thought. Not since John Major was outed for his Mr Bean like tendency to tuck his shirt into his underpants has there been a less statesman like sartorial choice.

The Australian made boots were once the fashionista’s must have, adored by A listers such as actresses Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Jessica Parker. Now they are so ubiquitous, no self respecting woman would covet a pair never mind a man.

‘Ugg’ truly is the only way to describe them.

If a woman judges a man by his shoes (and believe me she does), what do a pair of cosy but shapeless glorified slipperettes say? ‘Hi, call me Tony, I’m too busy to tie my own laces’?

Other Ugg fans include Take That’s Mark Owen, Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, actor Ben Affleck,

assorted Chelsea football players and actor Leonardo Di Caprio who took fashions lows to a whole new level when he teamed them with purple jogging bottoms.

No, much like the sock and sandal combo of yesteryear, Uggs on men are to be avoided at all costs.

Certainly by men who ever want to pull again or even be elected.

NEWARK Two Chinese nationals who covertly wired millions of dollars in cash from the the largest counterfeit smuggling ring ever prosecuted in the United States avoided prison time Wednesday when they were sentenced in federal court. District Court Judge Esther Salas.

Both received “a very, very big break” in their sentences, Salas said, as a result of their cooperation in the investigation since their arrests more than four years ago.

The counterfeit items largely handbags, sneakers, other shoes and cigarettes were produced in China and entered the United States in containers at the Port Newark Elizabeth Marine Terminal, according to their criminal complaint.

Twenty nine individuals were charged in the ring as supervisors and manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and structurers, prosecutors said.

According to Intrater, Zhou, 42, received the cash collected on the sale of the counterfeits and sent it back to China. He was charged with “structuring” the transactions keeping them below $10,000 so that they would not trigger a banking report that could have tipped off the scheme.

In all, the two sent between $15 million to $20 million back to China, said Zhou’s attorney,

Patrick Brackley.

Zhou, of Bay Shore, Queens, eventually brought his brother in law, Qu, also of Bay Shore, into the conspiracy, Brackley noted. Qu, 36, also was charged with structuring transactions.

While neither Zhou nor Qu were involved in producing counterfeits or smuggling them, their structuring of the cash payments allowed the scheme “to grow in a sort of uncontrolled manner,” Intrater said.

But the two men, who are legal permanent residents of the United States, also tried to earn a living legally, Salas said. Zhou owns a 99 Cent store in the Bronx, at which Qu’s wife works. Both are raising families in Bay Shore.

The judge also took note of the substantial cooperation they offered the government as it prosecuted each case.

Brackley said Zhou even tried to set up a cash exchange business in an attempt to help prosecutors identify other potential smugglers.

Neither had a criminal record before pleading guilty in 2013 and both have since stayed out of trouble,

Salas said in deciding to spare them from prison time.

Both apologized to the court. A sobbing Qu told Salas of his deep regret for being involved in the scheme and his intention to be a law abiding person.

Mel’s famous fashion sense was once again under the spotlight when she took a day off on Tuesday.

Famed for her love of leopard print during her Spice Girls heyday, Mel reverted to type when she partied with friends on a private yacht in Sydney Harbour.

A leopard print two piece showed off the talent judge’s toned physique as she posed for photos in front of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

This has been a dream season so far for the Sarnia Sting, and their future looks bright as well.

They have two rookies forward Jamieson Rees and defenceman Colton Kammerer representing Canada at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge that begins Sunday in Dawson Creek and Fort St.

great, Sting head coach Derian Hatcher said. we were hoping to have three. It’s unfortunate for Hogey (rookie defenceman Alexandre Hogue), but to have two sent, I think it’s definitely great for us, it’s great for our scouting staff and it’s good for the future. is on Canada Black and Kammerer is on Canada Red for the eight team tournament. Canada has three entries, while the United States, Russia, Czech Republic, Sweden and Finland have one apiece.

They’re the first Sting players chosen for Canada since Jordan Kyrou and Jakob Chychrun in 2014. (Chychrun didn’t play due to an injury.)

Kammerer, 16, was a longshot to make the tournament because, unlike Rees, he wasn’t invited to Hockey Canada’s under 17 development camp in the summer. He had to earn his spot on Canada Red by turning heads with the Sting.

play here put him on that team, and that says a lot in itself, Hatcher said.

Twenty three OHLers are playing for Canada at the tournament. Only two Kammerer and Joe Carroll of the Soo Greyhounds weren’t drafted in the first two rounds.

The six foot, 169 pound Kammerer was a third round pick this year. He had one goal and four assists in 14 games before Friday’s action.

liked him at the rookie camp, Hatcher said. really liked him at (main) camp and wanted to sign him right away. I think the biggest surprise is he’s more poised than we had thought. He does a lot of things with the puck that are more veteran plays. led all OHL rookies with a plus nine rating before Friday’s game. His five points were tied for the most among first year defencemen.

we’ve been working with him a lot, but there’s a few things he does out there that are hard to teach, Hatcher said. Just patience with the puck, just some of the plays he makes. He has poise. Poise is hard to teach. Maybe through the course of a year or two you can start to teach it, but he has incredible poise with the puck for a young kid. 16, was drafted ninth overall in the first round. He missed training camp and the first two weeks of the regular season after suffering a high ankle sprain at the Hockey Canada under 17 camp.

Once he got into the lineup, he didn’t take long to show off his skills.

first few games, you could see he’s going to be a really, really good player here, Hatcher said.

The five foot nine, 161 pound Rees looked so good in his first three games, he was moved up to the No. 1 line with Jordan Kyrou and Drake Rymsha. He has two goals and five assists in their five games together.

great player, Rymsha said. guys can see how skilled he is and how smart he is. For me and Jordan, it’s just important for us to realize that he is young and mistakes are going to be made, but we’ve just got to continue to talk to him and help him through those learning grinds that you go through when you’re 16. has eight points in eight games overall. He was drafted as a centre, but he’s been playing left wing on the top line.

fine over there, Hatcher said. can see he still does a lot of things he’s used to getting away with in midget hockey probably, but he’s learning. This is going to be a kid that, even this year but in the upcoming years, he’s going to do a lot of good things.
